Dangers lurk in every corner of Helsreik. Despite efforts to expel the dark powers from the lands, their malevolent whispers still remain an ever-present threat. Corruption feeds on the souls of mortals and its insidious influence still ripples throughout the region. Its mark leaves a wound on one's soul and condemns those to walk the treacherous path of damnation.
During the event players may encounter situations that challenge their moral compass, expose them to the horrors of reality, or test their resilience, both physical and mental, against the unnatural and unknown.
When a player engages in actions that challenge their faith, bears witness to grotesque or unnatural sights, endures a severely gruesome death, or participates in roleplay that could scar their soul, they may find themselves at the crossroads of sanity and madness. In this instance a Fate Test may be taken.
Taking a Fate Test in the described situations is always optional. However, there are instances where a Fate Test must be undertaken. Casters that have used Fate Stones in their Runestone pouch each sunrise MUST perform a Fate Test. Marshals may also instruct players who they witness participating in certain roleplay to take the test too.
Players may always willingly volunteer to take a Fate Test for character quirks or for their own character's story.
To draw from The Tarot of Fate visit Magister Arianelle at the Magic Authority:
At any time where a player's actions may warrant a test they may approach Magister Arianelle to test their fate.
At times, there may also be a Story GM available with a deck to perform a Fate Test for you.
Fate Tests are performed by drawing cards from the Tarot of Fate cartomancy deck.
The deck contains various effects that can impact your character, including personality changes, temptations, increased difficulty in casting magic, corruption of mind, body, or soul, interaction or possession by unknown forces and even, in the most extreme cases, permanent death. Sometimes even boons from the Gods…
The effects can be short-term, last for the event duration, or for the remaining life span of the character.
The Tarot of Fate is made up of Major and Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana card's impact resonates within your soul as divine forces have intervened in your fate.
These cards offer a more substantial impact on your soul, one that may never be cleansed.
The Minor Arcana on the other hand are focused on the everyday facets of your character's existence. They delve into emotional states, relationships, and physical.
They offer an opportunity to impact your character's daily life, influencing future scenarios and challenges while in Helsreik.
Will you embrace the Fate of the Gods; or defy its design?
